The Wemhöner Collection publication Satisfy Me accompanies a group exhibition that took place at Kunstsaele Berlin in 2018. At its center is the question of how the human body, desire, identity, and self-perception are represented in contemporary art. The starting point is Monica Bonvicini’s mirror work Satisfy Me, which addresses the viewer directly and invites reflection on pleasure, projection, and the gaze upon oneself.

The exhibition brings together international artists such as Monica Bonvicini, Roger Ballen, Asta Gröting, and Andreas Mühe. On display are photographs, sculptures, and installations that deal with eroticism, intimacy, physicality, power dynamics, and psychological tensions.

In terms of content, the publication combines art-theoretical approaches—such as Jacques Lacan’s concept of the mirror—with specific analyses of the works. The focus is less on a linear narrative and more on an atmospheric reflection on human desires, intimacy, and societal role models. The former exhibition venue, a previous brothel on Bülowstraße in Berlin, further amplified these themes and was deliberately integrated into the staging.
