Hypervisuality. Making the Invisible Visible – Films and Video Art from the Wemhöner Collection

Location
Palazzo Dugnani, Milan

Curator
Philipp Bollmann

Under the protection of Tiepolo’s ceiling frescoes in Palazzo Dugnani in Milan, the exhibition Hypervisuality, which took place in 2019, bridges the gap between the invisible and the visible with six cinematic works from the Wemhöner Collection.

“Hyper” here does not emphasize an overabundance of images, as is often attributed to media society, but rather a movement into the border area of what is visually representable. Hypervisuality achieves this transgression with a foray into the art of cinematic estrangement, exemplified by the works New Women by Yang Fudong, Fragile and 2’59” by Masbedo, Playtime by Isaac Julien, and The Swap and Deep Gold by Julian Rosefeldt.

A catalog published by the Wemhöner Collection was created for the exhibition, available in German, English, and Italian editions.
